ErieMoms

Erie Moms,

Wanted to see if anyone had any feedback or suggestions on an Erie Elementary schools that would be good for my 1st grader who is on an IEP. We are moving to Erie this summer and will be buying a home based on which school we choose for my son. Smaller class size, successful IEP goal-reaching is what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have a son who is moving to public school from private school and will now have an IEP. We are in the Fairview School District and so far it has been good dealing with them but we haven't been at school yet. I did meet another mom and she moved from Florida back to Erie to get her son in the Fairview School District because he has an IEP and she is thrilled with Fairview. From what I have heard from other people, the General McLane School district is the best. I have also heard really nice things about Harborcreek. I think your best bet is to choose one of these districts outside of the city. Millcreek is good but very large for high school, so I think you are better off going with one of the ones I have mentioned. Good Luck!
The principal and staff at Earle C. Davis Primary in North East have been outstanding.

I recommend visiting any school and meeting the staff yourself. It might also be helpful to include your child in the tour to see how he/she reacts to the staff and building.

If your child has a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum you qualify for a free case manager through the Barber National Institute. This person can be a resource to answer a variety of questions and help coordinate/provide guidance on everything from school placement, IEP writing, summer camps, dentists, etc.

Good luck!
We also use case management from the Barber National Institute and it is great. By using a case manager we found out about other services, such as a mobile therapy and OT (outside of school) and this summer, my son is attending a Social Skills Camp for the 1st time. I highly recommend it if you child is on the spectrum.
