ErieMoms

I just recently moved back to Erie after being gone for 5 years, and the lady that did all my family's cakes seems to have disappeared, which resulted in a last minute trip to Giant Eagle for my baby shower cake. Now that we are coming up on Alex's baptism, I'm on the search for a good, reasonably priced baker. I enjoyed Giant Eagle's cake, but if there's someone better out there, I'd rather go with someone local than a big store.

Linda Austin does make a good cake, but expensive. I use Karen at Urbaniak's at 310 East 24th Street. She makes a great cake and is reasonably priced. For my daughter's First Birthday, I ordered a nine inch round, 2 layer cake and a smash cake. I think I paid $25 or $30. It had buttercream frosting and cute balloon decorations. I ordered a cake a few years ago from Linda Austin, it was a 5inch round, 2 layer cake for my husband's birthday. It cost around $60, I think. It depends on what you consider reasonable. I also had Karen make my parent's 30th wedding anniversary cake, 1/4 of a sheet, decorated in their wedding colors, with fudge filling, cost $25 or $30.

Yeah, typically we got a 1/2 sheet cake, no filling, with whipped cream frosting for about $30 from our old cake lady. My wedding cake was priced at $1.25 or $1.50 a slice, and we had tons left over! I wish my mom could remember her last name so we could track her down!

I highly recommend "It Takes the Cake" by Wendy Adams! She is fantastic- hands down the best cake I've ever had. She does a cute animal- themed cake for birthday parties here at the zoo. She did my wedding cake and several other family occasions.
Just an idea since I have only visited Erie a few times (we are moving there this year) I would try Wegman's if you can't find a baker, but I would call a Bridal shop or pick up a local bridal magazine or see if there is a candy shop that sells supplies or a craft shop. Good luck and please pass the name along when you find a person.
See fellow ErieMom's member Laura Marinucci, who owns the Cookie Mug, she had great looking cupcakes today.
Would you be able to give me the contact for cakes from Wendy Adams, I am not able to find it. Thanks!

I talked to Wendy Adams and she is happy to help anyone in need of a cake. She also allowed me to post her number:

I would recommend Jennifer Shaffer in Girard for a cake. I believe she is in the telephone directory. She made my daughter's birthday cake a couple years ago and it was so incredible I didn't want to eat it. The flowers looked like the real thing.... It seemed reasonable at the time. It was a work of art!
