Saint Vincent Day of Dance, 2012: Dance Your Way to Better Heart Health!

Saint Vincent Day of Dance: An Opportunity to Dance Your Way to Better Heart Health

As part of American Heart Month in February, The Saint Vincent Heart and Vascular Center will present its third annual Day of Dance at the Millcreek Mall on Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 1 to 4 p.m.

A Saint Vincent Day of Dance will include dance demonstrations line dancing, mini lessons, a series of health screenings, an opportunity to speak one-to-one with Saint Vincent physicians and health experts, and numerous prizes and giveaways.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.  It will take place on the mall's Center Concourse.

Studies have shown that dance burns calories, lowers blood pressure and stress levels, increases stamina, strengthens the bones, and provides cardiovascular conditioning.

It will feature dance demonstrations by local dance companies, including Dance Elite, The Fleming School of the Arts, Little Dance Studio and the Villa Maria Academy cheerleaders, among others.  Based on their popularity in last year’s Day of Dance, a half dozen different line dances and group dances will be taught to participants and performed at the event.

Day of Dance will include free blood pressure, body fat and BMI screenings as well as dexa scans for osteoporosis.  Cardiovascular risk screenings will be performed and those shown to be at risk may receive an EKG or ankle-brachial index (ABI) screening. There will also be screenings for varicose veins, sleep apnea, breast cancer, bone density, and an opportunity to talk to health experts on everything from weight loss to urinary continence to sports medicine and balance issues.

Participants can win a $50 Visa gift card and will be eligible for a number of exciting prizes.  Saint Vincent Spirit of Women members will receive a free “goodie” bag.  Those who are not members can register online at

Register for this free event by e-mailing or calling 814-866-4817.
