What does family mean to me?

It's a place you can go to get support and to feel safe, a place to get advice and most of all love. This unfortunately is something my husband and I do not have. The old saying that you can't pick your family is so true.

As children we have no control over what happens in our lives and with our families, only when we get older do we realize the reality of it all.

As adults we can change ourselves or whatever in our life that we may want to change except this one issue, you can't pick your family. So, what do you do on holidays or birthdays or your childrens birthdays when there is no grandma or grandpa or aunts, uncles and so on? It is very very hard.

My situation is this, my parents are much older and are in no shape to travel where as my husbands parents are young and have the means to travel but choose to stay in Erie. When my husband deploys my monster-in-law parades around Brevillier Village, (where she works at) acting like she supports her son the hero but truth be told, she could care less about my daughters and I.
My brother-in-law works opposite shifts flipping burgers so he will not see his wife and daughter, the monster-in-law compared that to my husband deploying to Iraq for 15 months and could not understand why I was so upset... hmmm?!?!?!
I guess my point is, if you are a mother-in-law and you have grandchildren, do not play favorites. My daughters want nothing to do with my in-laws and could care less if we ever visited Erie again.
